President and CEO of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Julie Fleshman
and Dr. Randy Pausch, go to Capitol Hill to ask for Unprecedented Funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research
Today is a historic day for pancreatic cancer survivors, caregivers,
family members, donors, volunteers, elected officials and those health
professionals, scientists and researchers who are committed to fighting
this disease. Today is also a day to honor all those who have passed from
pancreatic cancer.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network President and CEO, Julie Fleshman,
along with Dr. Randy Pausch, will urge Congressional members to provide
the federal funds needed to implement The National Plan to Advance
Pancreatic Cancer Research. Dr. Randy Pausch is the 47-year-old Carnegie
Mellon professor with pancreatic cancer whose "last lecture" has been
viewed by over 6 million people around the world.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is asking for an unprecedented $170
million in federal funding to carry out The National Plan to Advance
Pancreatic Cancer Research. Additionally, the organization will raise $25
million in private funding over the next three years. The merging of these
funds will comprise Raise the Cure, an action plan to put pancreatic
cancer research on the fast track to finding a cure. If you would like
more information about how you can contribute to the private donor portion
of the Raise the Cure initiative, please contact Pamela Marquardt,
director of corporate and donor relations at 310-725-0025.
